FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register with Empowering Learning?
Please log into our
website
www.empowering-learning.co.uk and complete our
application form. Send the form back to us with a
copy of your CV via email or post and we will invite
you to an interview.
How can do I join the training programme?
Our Professional
Development Programme runs twice a year from
September to December and from January to May.
Your suitability to join our training will be agreed
on at your interview. You will normally need to have
a teaching qualification from any country in the
world.
What does the training programme include?
The 15 week programme
covers the 33 Q standards essential for the
theoretical understanding of teaching. This includes
a period of internship in either a primary or
secondary school. We also advise our candidates how
to write a good CV and prepare a personal statement
for your next step: an application for a post in a
school. All training session materials are included
too and you will need to download these before
attending each session.
How much does training cost?
The 15 week Professional
Development Programme runs every Thursday evening
from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and costs £350 payable at the
first session.
What does internship entail?
You will spend 18 days
over a 6 week period in one of our partner schools
as near as possible to your home. We will accompany
you to negotiate your targets for the placement. You
will co-teach in your own teaching area. Your aim
will be to teach a full class by yourself by the end
of the internship.
What happens after the training/internship?
The school will provide
you with a reference and this will be key to your
next step, obtaining a paid post in a UK school. We
will update your CV to reflect the experience gained
at your recent school.
How will I get paid and when?
Once your training is
completed, Empowering Learning will work to find you
a long term post in a school. We will also advise
you how to search for posts by yourself.
Will you be able to do my CRB application and what
is the cost?
Empowering Learning can
process your CRB application and give you a code so
that you can track its progress. The cost is £50
How long does the CRB application process take?
Normally between 6 and 8
weeks. The complete CRB disclosure is sent to your
home address and a second copy sent to us for our
records.
Do I need to join the GTC and how do I do this?
You do need to join the
GTC if you are starting work as a teacher. There are
3 types of GTC registration: Full registration for
teachers with UK QTS, provisional registration for
Overseas Trained Teachers without QTS and for
Unqualified Teachers.
Can you help me get QTS?
We hope so! Here are the
stages:
1. Complete PDP training including an
intern placement
2. Work as a temporary TA or Teacher
3. Obtain a long term, maternity cover or
permanent post
4. Either your school or Empowering
Learning will support you through QTS
