QTS for UAE Teachers

Empowering Learning also runs Teachers’ Standards training for people who have undertaken a PGCE at a British university by distance learning. Such courses do not involve students undertaking the required practical elements within the UK and consequently don’t provide graduates with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

We help them to obtain it.

We work in partnership with the University of Sunderland, but can also help graduates of distance learning PGCEs from any other British university. We work mainly with teachers in the Middle East in this regard – as there are so many teachers working in British private schools in the region who are studying for a PGCE by distance learning.

As of January 2014, we offer training by video in Dubai for the first five parts of our renowned Teachers’ Standards Programme, so participants can minimise the time spent training when they arrive in the UK.

When they come to the UK, they finish training at the same time as teaching full time on unqualified teacher pay. They complete the Assessment Only Route to QTS – assessed by the University of Sunderland. The time line for this is two terms. The third term is taken to finish the induction period. In short, a teacher could return abroad fully qualified after just one year in the UK.

Please note: we can only offer this training for those who have the right to live and work in the UK.
